چکیده

We present new Holocene and glacial dO data measured on planktonic foraminifera Neogloboquadrina pachyderma and benthic foraminifera Cibicidoides species from the Atlantic and Pacific sectors of the Southern Ocean in order to better understand its glacial hydrography. Combined with previously published data, the latitudinal dO distributions of these foraminifera show no appreciable difference during the Holocene and the Last Glacial Maximum. This suggests that the basic Southern Ocean hydrography, including stratification and the mean position of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current frontal system, remained largely unchanged, although the small number of Pacific data render any conclusion in that sector preliminary.

Atlantic overturning circulation and Agulhas leakage influences on southeast Atlantic upper ocean hydrography during marine isotope stage 11

[1] Climate dynamics during the marine isotope stage (MIS) 11 interglacial may provide information about how the climate system will evolve under the conditions of low‐amplitude orbital forcing that are also found during the late Holocene. New stable isotope and alkenone data are presented from southeast Atlantic Ocean Drilling Program Site 1085, providing detailed information on interglacial c...

Opal burial in the equatorial Atlantic Ocean over the last 30 ka: Implications for glacial-interglacial changes in the ocean silicon cycle

[1] The Silicic Acid Leakage Hypothesis (SALH) suggests that, during glacial periods, excess silicic acid was transported from the Southern Ocean to lower latitudes, which favored diatom production over coccolithophorid production and caused a drawdown of atmospheric CO2. Downcore records of Th-normalized opal fluxes and Pa/Th ratios from seven equatorial Atlantic cores were used to reconstruct...

A model‐data comparison of dC in the glacial Atlantic Ocean

[1] We compare a compilation of 220 sediment core dC data from the glacial Atlantic Ocean with three‐dimensional ocean circulation simulations including a marine carbon cycle model. The carbon cycle model employs circulation fields which were derived from previous climate simulations. All sediment data have been thoroughly quality controlled, focusing on epibenthic foraminiferal species (such a...

Southwest Pacific Ocean surface reservoir ages since the last glaciation: Circulation insights from multiple-core studies

Radiocarbon (C) in dissolved inorganic carbon in the ocean can trace the age of ocean water relative to the atmosphere and provide insight into climate-driven changes in ocean circulation since the last glaciation. Here we estimate surface radiocarbon ages from the last glaciation through the deglaciation into the Holocene in the southwestern Pacific by using tephras, both as stratigraphic tie ...
